I have lost 80lbs 3 or 4 times over the years, but always on restrictive diets. Programs like Optivia and NutriMost where I was eating very little food, sometimes even 500-800 calories a day.
And yes, I would lose weight, but as soon as I stopped doing the program, it would come back.
It was so exhausting. I felt like crap, couldn't eat real food (without "cheating"). I felt totally beholden to these crazy, non-science-based, seemingly arbitrary food rules. They were so hard to stick to, super expensive, and did a number on my brain and my body.
I have a bachelor's degree in Nutrition. It’s not like I don’t understand food. But I had a terrible relationship with it - bound in guilt, diet culture myths, and really crappy mindset. I was eating terribly, drinking way too much, and deprioritizing my health for everything else in my world.
I tried every crazy expensive and damaging program I could find to varying levels of success, none of them long-term. The pandemic ravaged my emotional and physical health and I was not happy with who I was, how I looked, or what I was doing.
When I found you (Nikki) on social media, I could tell from your first video that you were a take no crap, give no crap kind of gal that would tell the truth. You weren’t trying to sell me a “diet system” and some bs supplements.
You were real and I also really liked that you were a nurse. It added a lot of confidence for me. Then once we had our Strategy Call, I loved your vibe. Still do! And I joined Keep It Off immediately.
I really liked that the program is geared to busy moms a bit later in life. And the prospect of the mindset work was really appealing.
This program has been a total game-changer!
My body is a work in progress and it’s coming along so great.
So far, I’m down 34 lbs and averaging around 2 lbs/week in weight loss.
I’m down 31 inches and 3 sizes. Because I’m losing it the right way this time, the weight loss actually looks like more than it did with crazy diets.
But the mindset changes have been everything!
Trusting my body, learning how to listen to it again, understanding my real motivations, fitting health into my life, etc.
I remember when I had the revelation that bananas are not bad for you and potatoes are fine. “This food is bad, that food is good” was so ingrained in me. I didn’t realize it until I started really spending time to understand what my brain was doing.
Honestly, I have so much more peace about my body. I have learned how to hear her again - both physically and mentally.
It’s so much more than diet and exercise.
It’s a full transformation that starts on the inside and before you know it shows up on the outside. I think about food so differently now and I am living that for my family too!
